The Frierson Brothers
Franklin and Frederick have now released an electrifying new album, BREAKTHROUGH, on their independent label JEF Records, LLC. The album was recorded live and produced again by the late Derrick Lee for Dherico Music and co-produced by James Perry. BREAKTHROUGH features the traditional title track that offers the faith and hope of Christ as the solution to any of life’s test and trials. It also includes “He’s Alright”, their funk-infused radio single that features Al Willis on guitar and Carlton Pope on organ. Alvin Darling, Milton Biggham, and Donnie Harper are contributing songwriters on BREAKTHROUGH, available on all digital music outlets.
Our Story
The Frierson Brothers are ministers, singers, and musicians who have made an enduring imprint in Gospel music. Rev. Franklin Frierson, Sr., and Rev. Frederick Frierson, Sr. are the dynamic twin duos who have been delivering good news through music for over five decades. Their traditional and soulful musical delivery and meticulous harmonic blend have established The Frierson Brothers as one of the most authentically captivating and anointed groups in Gospel.

The Frierson Brothers are a musically gifted family of ten children from Newark, NJ. Their parents, Mrs. Essie and Mr. Joe Frierson, Sr. traveled as members of the Queen City Gospel Singers and planted the family as active members at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Newark. The Frierson Singers soon emerged to record their debut singles, “Do What The Good Book Says” and “God Is A Just God”. In 1971, they released “He’s Got Everything You Need”, “The Problem Is Sin” followed by “Trying To Find Peace” in 1973. This catapulted their music careers, garnering appearances singing and accompanying Gospel greats Mahalia Jackson, Dorothy Norwood, Shirley Caesar, and many others.

Their prowess established the family of singers and musicians as Gospel artists of great potential. The authentic and dynamic talent of the group landed them an appearance in the 1989 hit movie The Dream Team starring Michael Keaton, Christopher Lloyd, and Peter Boyle. Throughout the following years of traveling and ministering, several of the Frierson Singers went home to be with the Lord – brother Joe Frierson, Jr. passed away in 2009, and Jerome Sykes passed away in 2018.

Although they lost some group members, they continued to hone their forte. They partnered with Grammy® and Stellar award-nominated producer and long-time family friend Derrick Lee (Bobby Jones, Beverly Crawford, Dorothy Norwood, The Williams Brothers, Shirley Caesar). Lee produced their debut album OVER THERE (2007) as the group revised the name to The Frierson Brothers. The Frierson Brothers gained notoriety and performed as a resident artist at The House of Blues Gospel Brunch in Atlantic City, NJ, on The Tom Joyner Foundation’s Fantastic Voyage Cruise, and were the only Gospel group performing at the Blues to Bop Festival in 2010 and 2011 in Lugano, Switzerland. They are included on the 2011 BLUES TO BOP FESTIVAL album, singing their original song “Stand Still” and “Oh Happy Day” (by Edwin Hawkins) with The Soul Sisters.
